The Caterham Seven is available in the form of a kit and the Assembly Guide is there to walk customers through the entire build process. Previously this took the form of a 200+ page tome of text with very few pictures to aid the customer.
When it came to re-imagining the guide the ambition was to simplify things and demonstrate the build with as few words as possible, much like an Ikea furniture catalogue. I took the incredible illustrations produced by Kayak Design and set about designing a book that was symbol based; breaking down every part, tool, nut and bolt required for every step. Critical information that could not be communicated visually took the form of helpful ‘tips’ from the Caterham engineers. It was a huge undertaking for myself and the Caterham engineering department who spent a considerable amount of time dissecting the process and feeding me with all the information I required, but the final result is well worth the effort.
